Portland Hall

Portland Hall was opened in 1863 as the Royal Museum of natural history. The front of the house carried 

The Royal coat of arms and the gate piers were surmounted by bronze elephants.

The Georgian Hall was Southport's first museum and subsequently a concert hall.

The Rt. Hon William Gladstone, four times Prime Minister of Great Britain used the Hall at Portland street as his platform for a great political speech the year before he first became Prime Minister.
